Premiering two years after its debut season, Black Mirror sophomore collection of cautionary tales made things a little stranger. While Black Mirror does not really have any “bad” seasons, some viewers are not off-based to believe that Season 5 is the least “ Black Mirror” season yet.
While the plot is unique and very much in line with what the series is known for thematically, it is a challenge to pinpoint what the episode is really trying to say: a warning of VR becoming too real, an allegory for video games coming between marriage, etc.?
The episode most difficult to make heads or tales of from Black Mirror Season 5 would have to be “ Striking Vipers,” starring Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as old college buddies who engage in a strange affair via their avatars in a virtual reality video game. The tonally uneven “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” was, at least, interesting for casting Miley Cyrus in a dark take on her own behind-the-scenes life, circa Hannah Montana, but not much else - not to mention its recycled concept of downloaded consciousness that Black Mirror has done far better in previous episodes.
If you’re an Apple user, you can then watch them wherever and whenever you like.“Smithereens” is Season 5’s best for Andrew Scott’s engrossing performance as a manic rideshare driver desperate to speak to a Mark Zuckerberg-esque internet tycoon (Topher Grace), but would detract points for basing its premise on the obvious and overdone concept of the dangers of social media. USS Callister, Arkangel, Crocodile, Hang the DJ, Metalhead and Black Museum are all available at £1.99 bought individually. iTunesīritish iTunes also has the same episodes as YouTube for the same price. The US site currently doesn’t have them but that may change at any time.Īgain, Amazon Prime Video should need no introduction and if you have a subscription, you should be able to watch all episodes back to back should you want to. If you have a VPN and can change your Amazon region you should be able to watch these without issue. Amazon Prime VideoĪmazon Prime Video currently has all four seasons available through its UK website. You will then be able to watch them on your phone, tablet, browser or wherever you like.
You can buy each episode individually or pay £12.99 ($17.00 for a full season in HD.
It only has seasons 3 and 4 on the UK site, but again, if you use a VPN you should be able to access them without a problem. I have no idea whether YouTube will be getting more seasons or whether this is it but what it has is the usual HD quality with good audio and the speed and reliability of YouTube. They cost £1.99 ($2.60) each and include some of the best episodes, USS Callister, Arkangel, Crocodile, Hang the DJ, Metalhead and Black Museum. That’s fine as they don’t have to be watched in any order so can be standalone and bought individually. YouTube has some Black Mirror episodes available on its UK site but they are limited to only six. All I will say is that the streaming quality is excellent, audio top class and you can binge watch your way through most of the seasons in one place. You shouldn’t need me to introduce Netflix so I won’t waste your time. You can start at the very beginning and work your way through seasons one to four from within this single platform. Netflix is currently showing four seasons of Black Mirror. However, if you use a VPN, you can access it on YouTube and Google Play as well as Amazon Prime Video. Where can you watch it legally? Black Mirror is a Netflix exclusive so is only really available legally there.
